Potential Asbestos Hazard

18/09/2019
Update as at 3.20pm Wednesday 18th September:

The affected material has been assessed by an external contractor and has been deemed to NOT contain asbestos products. This means there is no risk of exposure to asbestos from this incident. Please see the letter linked at the right of this page for further information. We thank you for your understanding.

We are currently restricting access to an external area of Teaching Block 3 (Year One Building) due to damage caused to the soffit (an external section of the roof).

The school’s Built Environment Materials Information Register (BEMIR) indicates that the soffit may be made of fibro, which may contain asbestos.

No students have accessed this area of the school during or before this incident. Students have not been exposed to any material. Repairs and a professional clean are to be undertaken at the earliest possible opportunity. The area will remain restricted until a clearance is provided for its reuse.

These precautions will ensure that all students and staff are kept safely away from the area. We take the issue of student and staff safety very seriously, and believe that the partnership we share as a school community means that it is important to keep everyone informed in order to minimise concern.

Please do not hesitate to contact Mr Cramb through the office on 5547 2222 if you have further queries on this matter.
